Identifying a Gap
Explain the identified gap or inefficiency in the existing math education landscape that their platform aims to address. This could involve challenges such as limited access to quality tutoring, high costs, or a lack of personalized learning options.
I did not realize that I was dyslexic or that I was in the autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) until I started teaching differently abled children in 2011.
I’m like a surviving turtle out of hundreds of eggs laid. I had a good support system at home. My mother’s consistent communication with the school teachers and the system aided my survival and becoming a high achiever in education, sports and extracurricular activities. My mother and father consistently reminded me that education is wealth. They planted the seed of wanting to achieve in me. My father always boosted my confidence mentioning that our family members are smart and good at studied and sports. He also always challenged me. Fortunately, it worked for me. However, it may have not worked for some. One example of his challenges was – He said that I would not be able to get all A* in my GCSE exams (8 Ds in 1987) and hence will not be able to get the best results in my school. I took on the challenge and he agreed to buy me a car (second hand) if I achieve both goals. I did achieve both goals and became a proud owner of a car at the age of 17, even before I was eligible to obtain a driver’s license.
Following are some of my weaknesses
I was continually criticized by my teachers (including my elocution teacher and tutors) regarding my weakness of reading, spellings and not being able to memorize. Also, I used to get punished and caned in school for not knowing the times tables and spellings by heart, even though me being able to complete the work assigned in class before anyone else in any subject (including English) and getting the highest scores around 90% of the time.
I know many of my friends who failed miserably due to the weaknesses of the common education system.
I have learnt a unique way of learning throughout the years with the help of few good teachers and my desire to reach the top.
I always got in to trouble in school as I was hypoactive and disturbing others in class as the school work was not challenging enough for me. However, there were three excellent teaches (grade 6, grade 9 and the director of the school) who managed me extremely well. (today, I use the techniques used by those teachers with my differently and specially abled students)
